Hello everyone. Soon I will post introduction of my Zuk project in United Kingdom! First I need help. I re-wire electronics due to poor installations previously. Question: Where is " relay " for headlamps location on Zuk 1985 Straz? It is not on bulkhead / firewall... I am worried there is no relay.. some wires melted by previous owner... Please advise. Sorry for my English. Zuk forever. Andy |

I believe in 1985 the circuits of front lamps should have relays. They should be installed under the front bonnet on the wall, quite near the hole of the electric bunch (relays for both, the "normal" and the stroner "road"). If there is none, or was removed - it's not good then. However - older Żuks, with a different main lamps switch was not equipped with relays. But this year should have it.

Hi Marian, Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I have no relay here. I am surprised about the age of Zuk, it feels older, but log book document says 1985. The wiring behind dashboard.. was like nothing I've ever seen before...  As you see nothing on back wall.. maybe time to fit relay.

From that photos it's hard to say if it's '85. A mess under the dashboard is nothing new in Żuks  Even from factory it wasn't much better.However, I will suggest You to make whole electricity from start. New wires, new connectors, new relays, but of course accoriding to original schematic. I don't trust old cables and rusted pins in connectors I prefer to change it all for new even if it takes much effort.Where are You from in the UK? |

yeah, relays should be in locaction like this on Marian's photo, but in 85' they rather been older type, bigger. I have one Fire Engine Żuk 84' in my workshop, so I look tomorow what's under hood:) about mess in electricity-cables are rather ok, but pins should be replaced; i prefer seal connectors under hood like this: http://www.neonplus.pl/?596,gniazdo-szc ... krotne-kpl be careful and dont trust colours of cables, they were often changed in production |

Thanks! I will add new relay before LandRover lights are fitted. I converted so I can fit any "wipac" headlight in UK. straight way to burn a car:( we call it joint connection, or american fuse;) Today i looked under żuk 84' hood- there's no relay. maybe under dashboard they can be, but i can't check it;customer took żuk away. old żuk(before 07.67 or 07.69?) had symmetrical low beam headlamps. |

Hi there, there was no relay in my 1980 and 1984 Żuks. There are original relays in my 1986 and 1990 ones. |

I thought it strange 2 x fuses, 2 x high / low beam lights. I think I re-wire new lights also. I will post up a thread of my project and my blog on żuk thread. Thanks for confirming my model have no relay! " flasher " relay is behind clocks and is BIG! Thank you for warm welcome and help. I am looking for people to play the Zuk factory game I'm making also. |

flasher relay is a BIG shit;) it have bimetallic element, so, if temperature falling down it flash slower,slower... this could be dangerous in town traffic. replace this by any electronic, 3 pin flasher relay(2x21W) |

Yes, I confirm... If You are not looking for 100% original and You expect it to work better replace it with electronic

Take the notice of your windshield gasket - seems that water comes in and feeds the rust behind the dashboard. Lots of Żuks share the same problem. |

Yeah I saw this rusting.. Is windscreen easy to remove? I need to take glass out and treat rust and rust proof. However in future I hope for full painting the vehicle. For now will become lots of different colours as rust is very bad in cabin.. |

Removing is usually easier than installing it again  But nothing, that cannot be done  But the thing is You have to use silicone to make it really waterproof. I haven't heard of Żuk with only original gasket without silicone that is not leaking from under the windshield... So it's not a problem with removing or installing, but with sealing it

Today I change flasher relay for new small version. 2 Pin digital, so LED bulbs possible on DRL  The dashboard is OK now, and the gauges I have working  The Zuk is working again. Alternator was not before - Volts saying 11.8. Now alternator working volts very high v15!!! Look at ammeter dance!! |
